Losing My Vintage Virginity

I am a vintage virgin. At least I was until a few days back when this beauty arrived through my letterbox. Yes, this is true - I have never in my life bought second-hand clothes before. I am just not the kind of person who would enjoy spending hours scouring through charity shops trying to find a gem which most of the time, I believe, is quite hard to find.

As you may have gathered, I have become rather smitten with the born and bred US label American Apparel. I have the utmost admiration for fashion brands who despite everything have kept their design and production in the country where the label was originally created. I don't know what made me click on a link called "Vintage" on their website a few days ago.. And I am awfully glad I did - I completely fell in love! In addition to their own branded goods they also offer an amazing selection of vintage pieces, all hand picked from all parts of the World by their design team.

The item I decided to purchase is a 1980's pure silk short-sleeved blouse by the now extinct American label "Anna & Frank". The blouse is such amazing quality, basically like new. The material is so luxurious and the fit is perfect - I cannot wait to go back for more! I keep wondering who has worn the top before (it looks so good there is a possibility that it has never been worn but for some weird reason I do hope it has been shown some love before me!), what she did for living, was she happy? Well, this I will never know but what I do know is that the blouse has made its new owner very happy indeed! :-)

The Denim Shirt

I started my desperate search for a perfect denim shirt as soon as I saw Ashley Olsen wearing an amazing crinkled one (see a few posts back). Fortunately, the search didn't have to last too long, as wonderful American Apparel surprised me with this all-boxes-ticked pure cotton light-blue version (other colours are also available). May I add that all AA products are designed and produced in their own factory in USA and cotton they use is the most comfortable and high quality I have seen for high-street prices. And yes, I do have a canvas print of Cindy Crawford on my bedroom wall! :-)

Outfit of the day

Oh gosh, how much I love the genius simplicity of this outfit. Perfect oversized white blouse, skinny black trousers and my favourite-ever Valentino studded sandals. I cannot express it in words how much I want to own a pair of these shoes - they are so sexy and go with everything. I am also loving the lack of jewellery - very often less really is more when it comes to accessories. Like we can see here, a simple gold watch and skinny chain necklace totally do the trick.

Isabel Marant Spring / Summer 2012

French wonderwoman Isabel Marant is one of my favourite high-end designers. Her designs ooze Parisian-chic and French style is something I am absolutely fascinated with. I adore her slouchy jumpers, sexy jeans and oversized tops - all these scream me. In every IM collection there are items I so badly want and sometimes I spend hours trying to find a high-street copy - her price point is just a little too high :(  I pray she will do a high street collaboration soon - I swear I would buy the entire collection!

I know in fashion crowd's eyes S/S 2012 collections are now old news, however I love this collection so much I just wanted to once again, share it with you (in case you haven't seen it before). God, I love this woman so much, she is a genius in my eyes!

Spring in Cambridge

I haven't yet mentioned in my blog that I had my birthday a few weeks back and my lovely girlfriends from Estonia flew over to help me celebrate it. As a sweet tradition every time someone comes to visit me, we did lots of shopping and of course I was showing them around in my beautiful Cambridge. It was a pleasant surprise for my girls to step off a plane and be greeted by 22C sunshine, considering in Estonia they still had snow and freezing temperatures. Spring in the UK is by far the most beautiful time, every morning when driving to work I admire the colourful trees, bushes and flowers by the roads.

Living away from my home country means that unfortunately I do not get to see my friends very often (believe me, this is the hardest thing about living abroad!), so I cannot describe how special every minute is I can spend with them. Here are some of the pics from this fantastic time we had together and I would like to show you a piece of Cambridge too, in case you haven't visited the City before :-)

The New Vogue!

I could not walk past the May issue of British Vogue in my local supermarket yesterday without placing it in my shopping trolley. I very much prefer models to actresses/singers on fashion magazines' covers, however this cover featuring Charlize Theron (one of my favourite actresses) is just too divine to ignore.

In addition to one of the most stunning covers in recent months I was over the moon to discover two fash-tastic editorials inside the mag - one starring the legendary Estonian supermodel Carmen Kass and the other one starring another uber-successful Estonian model Karmen Pedaru. Pedaru's editorial is just too beautiful for words - I would highly recommend all her fans to get the issue, I cannot stop staring at these pictures :-)

Accompanying this month's fashion bible is a high-street special "More Dash Than Cash" - the whole magazine full of Vogue editors' picks of affordable clothes and accessories - I am telling you this thing is dangerous - I want almost every piece! :-)

PS: Who hasn't read my previous post, please note that I have changed the URL of my blog from www.quiinest.blogspot.co.uk to www.owlinvogue.com. The old URL will soon be inactive.

This Week's Lust Have

Actually - lust have's - are these 5 too-fab-to-be-true designer items. I am especially obsessed with Charlotte Olympia's feather clutch and the fabulous mish-mash patchwork jacket by an Australian label Ksubi. How cool is that jacket? Such a statement piece, oh I want it soo bad!!

The two silky shirts would be perfect for strolling around in the beautiful Canary Islands which are waiting for me in just a couple of weeks time. The colourful trends this season have really made me fall in love with vibrant statement colours - why wear black and grey all the time when world is so cheerfully colourful?

H&M Excitement!

I am beyond excited about the order I placed on H&M website this morning. Their Spring/Summer collection is one of the best they have done in a long time. I have been searching for the perfect jacket for Spring and found this black parka which ticks all the boxes! It goes with everything and at the same time keeps me nice and dry in this dreary weather that has taken over UK at the moment :-(

Flowery trousers are also close to perfection - gorgeous black and white flower print which is not too in-your-face, like most flowery pants around this season. Splash of yellow is a fab detail and makes sure the sun is always shining (at least on my thighs) :-)

"Brown And Grey" starring Marni At H&M

OK - this is not an outfit for the faint-hearted, or this is how my bf at least thinks. He expressed an opinion that the top should be worn by butchers (!!!), not "normal girls" like me. Men don't really get anything about fashion - he has verbally trashed quite a few items in my wardrobe. But - women should never dress for men, only for themselves or other women - this ensures the best outcome :-)

Yes, I did manage to acquire the Marni at H&M necklace I so badly wanted thanks to the good old eBay. The top from the same collection is also fabulous - something very different you cannot see on the streets very often. Teamed with simple shorts or trousers the top doesn't look too crazy-fashion-victim - in fact I think it looks rather cool! Leather at the front could be a little softer to allow more movement but hey - this is a very limited collection piece which will be extremely rare and difficult to find in a few years time. Overall I absolutely love this outfit - easy to wear and differs from the crowd!
